As of the end of Term 3, we are excited with the number of Students, Seed Alumni, Host Employers and Industry Partners we have engaged and supported through the program to commence and progress through their education and employment pathways.

In addition to the 342 students from 62 partner schools, 111 year 13 alumni, Seed and CnG Employment are supporting 21 trainees to complete their traineeships.

With so much growth being experienced through our education and employment pathways, we are seeking any organisations looking to take on School-based or Adult Trainee's as well as Work Experience students to contact our team to discuss.

Enjoy our Seed Term 3 newsletter, we look forward to working with our valued Seed stakeholders for the remainder of the year.

Townsville Seed Team Present at Leadership and Resilience Day

The Seed Team enjoyed presenting at the Townsville Black Stars Leadership & Resilience Program on Friday 3rd September, 2021.

Approximately 25 students aged between 14-16 years of age from Kirwan State High School, Ignatius Park College and Annandale Christian College attended the program at The Salvation Army on a student free day.

The main focus for the day was to engage and bring self-awareness to the students and invite them to connect with services and programs.

Seed Foundation Australia delivered a session on exploring career opportunities in Health along with other services scheduled for the day from Queensland Rugby League, Wilson Security, Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services and Love Bites.

Cassie Page Shares Her Seed Journey

Hi my name is Cassandra Page (Cassie). My Seed Foundation story began back in September 2020 when I got the call for the traineeship. I remember being so overwhelmed, that I forgot to hang up the phone and yelled with excitement in the ear of my then Manager.

First couple weeks went great however it wasn't long into my journey that I received some more exciting news of becoming pregnant.

For many people, this would be a reason to give up on the traineeship, however with the support from the team, my family and my own resilience, I just knew I would be able to continue.

I worked all the way up to the week before giving birth. I had to then leave work to give birth to my son Omari and it was love at first sight.

The team was obviously updated throughout that time as I feel they watched me grow this little human.

As much as I enjoyed having time with Omari, I actually returned back to work 3 months later, to finish my certificate and traineeship.

The team and I decided on 5 weeks to finish it.

I am now proud to say I am qualified and have been offered a permanent job with Seed Foundation and CnG Employment as an Administration

Officer. I am so grateful to the team and so proud of myself for this awesome accomplishment.

Exciting Industry Partnerships Providing Students with 0pportunities

Coolum SHS students pictured with Gunyah Wellness staff as they complete their induction for their work placement experience.

It seems that everyone is talking about the gap between the Health Industry, and it's much needed Future Workforce. Industry is crying out for qualified health professionals, meanwhile across the pond, schools are doing their level best to prepare their Health students with real life exposure to health settings. And yet....the 2 often don't meet.

So in early 2021, the Seed Foundation decided to try to make inroads into bridging that gap. We commenced a project in the South East Queensland region, with the goal to connect a Medical Centre with a difference in Nambour (Gunyah of Wellness), with Year 12 students completing Connect 'n' Grow Health Qualifications (at Coolum State High School).

While students are receiving first class training at school through their exceptionally well trained teachers like Ms Tatnall and Nurse Bec, nothing quite compliments the training like exposure to a real life Medical setting.

And so....with all parties recognising the potential benefits of the project, we set out to embark on a plan to connect the dots.

Together we simulated a 'real world' recruitment drive and induction process, to place interested Year 12 students into work experience opportunities at Gunyah.

The outcome has been a resounding success for all involved. Not only have Gunyah been able to share their message of a 'Holistic Health Approach' with local students (as well as spread the word of all the great work they are doing in community), they are also able to spot some of the fresh talent coming through!

The passionate staff at Coolum SHS are ecstatic to be providing not only real life exposure of the health learnings with students, but also potential future employment outcomes. IT'S REALLY IS A WIN WIN!

Thank you to the Gunyah Wellness Team, the Coolum SHS staff, and of course the stars of the show...the Students who recognised the opportunity, applied, and made the absolute most of it! WELL DONE.
