Seed Foundation Australia launches Impact Measurement Initiative

Through the generous support of one of our Philanthropic donors, Seed in conjunction with collaborators Development Impact and Socialsuite finalised the implementation phase of Seed's Impact Measurement project, intended to measure and evidence the value and impact of our work.

The Seed Outcome Framework is designed to measure overall outcomes to the themes of Self-determination, Empowerment, Engagement and Development through the Sub outcome areas and Seed organisational Goals of Health Literacy, Education and Employment through each stage. Each stage of the student journey has been mapped from year 11 (entry into health & community qualifications) through to post high school support called year 13 and beyond. These have been defined as Short (year 11), Medium (year 12) and Long (year 13,14 & 15) term outcomes.

Data from student surveys will be compiled into Socialsuite (cloud software), which analyses the data into dashboards, reporting differences tracked over time.

Seed would like to thank our donors for their generous support and the partners we worked with to implement our Impact Measurement project.

It seems that everyone is talking about the gap between the Health Industry, and it's much needed Future Workforce. Industry is crying out for qualified health professionals, meanwhile across the pond, schools are doing their level best to prepare their Health students with real life exposure to health settings. And yet....the 2 often don't meet.

So in early 2021, the Seed Foundation decided to try to make inroads into bridging that gap. We commenced a project in the South East Queensland region, with the goal to connect a Medical Centre with a difference in Nambour (

            ).

While students are receiving first class training at school through their exceptionally well trained teachers like Ms Tatnall and Nurse Bec, nothing quite compliments the training like exposure to a real life Medical setting.

And so....with all parties recognising the potential benefits of the project, we set out to embark on a plan to connect the dots.

Together we simulated a 'real world' recruitment drive and induction process, to place interested Year 12 students into work experience opportunities at Gunyah.

The outcome has been a resounding success for all involved. Not only have Gunyah been able to share their message of a 'Holistic Health Approach' with local students (as well as spread the word of all the great work they are doing in community), they are also able to spot some of the fresh talent coming through!

The passionate staff at Coolum SHS are ecstatic to be providing not only real life exposure of the health learnings with students, but also potential future employment outcomes. IT'S REALLY IS A WIN WIN!

Thank you to the Gunyah Wellness Team, the Coolum SHS staff, and of course the stars of the show...the Students who recognised the opportunity, applied, and made the absolute most of it! WELL DONE.

What an exciting start to 2021 it has been for Seed Foundation Australia. As of the end of term 2, we are delighted with the number of students and partner schools who have engaged with the program this year. Currently we have 386 students being supported by Seed Engagement Managers to complete their Connect 'n' Grow health qualification from 62 Partner Schools across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Additionally Seed and CNG Employment are supporting nine School Based Trainees and seven Adult Trainees to complete their traineeships. With so much growth being experienced in our student numbers completing the program, we are seeking any organisations looking to take on School-based/post-school Trainee's or Work Experience students to contact our team to discuss.

Seed Foundation Australia recently had the pleasure of hosting Tim & Gina Fairfax and recently appointed TFFF CEO Neal Harvey in our Townsville office.

TFFF is one of Seeds generous key funding partners supporting the programs we deliver. It was amazing to introduce our Seed staff Rick and De'arne, as well as our inspiring current and past Seed students/alumni to the TFFF team during their Townsville visit.

We are extremely proud of the dedicated work and health literacy outcomes our small Seed team are achieving with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and alumni that we support across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Seed are truly grateful for the ongoing support TFFF are providing and certainly could not achieve the education, training and employment outcomes we have to date without TFFF's support.

We had 7 students and their trainer Amy Sachlikidis and accompanying Teacher Matthew Foster from Bwgcolman Community School attend from Palm Island for the day. They listened to the Health Workers from Naphl (Northern Australia Primary Health ltd) ITC - Integrated Team Care and their Health Journey stories.

The students also heard from Seed Foundation Australia and CnG staff regarding their employment Journey stories.

The Seed Team had the privilege of joining the St Patrick's College Certificate III in Health Services Assistance class, as they attended the CQU information day and tour of the campus in Townsville (27/5).

Many students were unsure at the start if this was a pathway they would like to pursue, but when asked again after the experience they are reconsidering studying at CQU as their next step. Great exposure for the students.

FFF partners with organisations delivering initiatives that promote student engagement and assist young people to develop their aspirations for further education and career pathways. Educators are developed and supported through professional development, peer networks and whole of school approaches. Below is a part of the report they had shared on us last year on their website. If you wish to see more this is the link.

Funding from TFFF enables Seed Foundation Australia's Engagement and Pathways Managers to provide individualised support and guidance for students, and to connect them with employment, traineeship and tertiary education opportunities. Seed Foundation Australia's relationship - focused approach is even more important for boarding students who come from various communities or islands across Cape York and the Torres Strait.

Host Employers in Townsville and Cairns offering School Based and Adult Traineeships play an important part in students’ career development, allowing them to gain real life experience that will not only assist with their career prospects but will also benefit their families and communities through sharing of the knowledge gained. As a result of their involvement with SFA, a higher proportion of students are now considering careers within their local health and social service industries.
